The true NIMBYs of the world are those who want to make the world green — so long as it’s not them who have to suffer for it.

Green power has come to mean generating electricity by burning taxpayer dollars.

Another Wind Turbine Fire.

Wind turbine catches fire; Altona firefighters respond
January 28, 2012 in WPTZ TV
In 2009, this Altona, NY industrial wind turbine
fell down.
County fire officials said only one wind turbine was on fire, and nobody was hurt.

The turbine property is on Rand Hill Road on the Boyea Farm directly abutting the property owned by Noble Environmental Power where they have a few of theit own turbines.

Wind turbine fires most often happen in high winds when the fire danger can spread downwind over a large area. They don't fight turbine fires, they evacuate, stay clear and prepare to fight the other ground fires that occur mostly down wind. They let the turbine burn out and then the wind developer does the best they can to make sure it does not get publicity. I was actually told by a wind developer community organizer that turbines never catch fire and there are a lot of doctored photos out there.

When most things break down they can be repaired. They should put a big FORD sign on every one. FIX OR REPLACE DAILY. I wonder, has anyone ever driven a decent car built in Spain? Even Mitzubishi built jet fighters. Why are we going to Spain for technology we should be developing here? I wonder what the most popular car is in Spain? Now I have to find the answer to that question.

Wasn't it in Clinton Co. that a wind developer tried to slip a tote bag to a public official. One that had 50 thou in cash in it? Didn't he blow the whistle on them and the action resulted in Cuomo's volunteer code of ethics for wind developers?

Industrial wind bribes are a way of life in wind targeted towns. And n some towns it doesn't take much. In the Cape, Voters for Wind were seen carrying out boxes of pizza purchased by Acciona and Bp's community organizers.

From snowmobile clubs to fire departments to historical societies, and from fuel assistance funds to youth programs to libraries; the wind industry in Maine has a long history of spreading its money around the communities wherein it hopes to build grid-scale industrial wind facilities.

The latest example of a wind corporation’s ‘largesse’ here in Maine can be found in the River Valley. Patriot Renewables (PR) is the owner of controversial wind projects at Beaver Ridge in Freedom and Spruce Mountain in Woodstock. This same developer is hoping to build additional wind turbine developments in area communities, including Dixfield and Carthage. So it came as no surprise to read in the 12/21/2011 edition of the Sun Journal that Tom Carroll, PR’s project coordinator, was handing out hefty checks to local organizations.
http://www.sunjournal.com/news/business/2011/12/21/eleven-circles-r...

Still, I was stunned by the blatant nature of the largest contribution made last week. Eleven Circles, a youth action group, is no doubt a worthy recipient for a $10,000.00 donation. But the impartiality of Maine’s town governments and town officials is crucial as we watch communities struggle to remain cohesive through the process of writing ordinances and considering the development applications submitted by large and wealthy corporations. Should we not have serious questions when Patriot Renewables ‘supports’ a business owned by the daughter-in-law of a Dixfield town selectman?
Other area recipients of Patriot Renewables’ bounty were Ludden Library, the Webb River Snowmobile club, the Poodunk Snowmobile Club and the Carthage fuel assistance fund.
Corporations like to call this ‘being a good neighbor’. Patriot Renewables said they were looking to ‘help to fill a void in the area’.
Let’s not kid ourselves. First Wind, Patriot Renewables, Trans-Canada, Iberdrola and other wind developers looking to build facilities aren’t passing around tens and hundreds of thousands of dollars because they care about our youth, or our poor, or our winter recreation enthusiasts. They target communities which will be deciding whether or not to approve their development permits. The people of Dixfield and Carthage are being ‘romanced’, just as the citizens of Mars Hill, Danforth, Stratton, Woodstock and Lincoln were. If Dixfield and Carthage had already passed ordinances restricting the placement of industrial wind developments, the odds are that deserving non-profits in the area would not have been the beneficiaries of those much-needed donations.
A bribe is a bribe. Towns such as Dixfield and Carthage should design and institute ordinances that take into account the health, property values and quality of life of their citizens. Then they will see how quickly a wind developer decides that there are other towns which need a ‘good neighbor’ or have ‘voids’ to be filled.

Apparently , doing all the wrong things is the right thing to do if you want to get rich and run the world. They can make an honest man look like a grinch. He's the one who gets accused of stealing money from children and the town. They don't tell them where that money will eventually come from. It doesn't even come out of their own pockets now.

Shameful and depressing. Throw the bums out!

There are many more reasons for a wind development moratorium.

Certainly, the town should finalize their work on reviewing the comp and adopting the ordinance.

Joining Canada with a moratorium that allows further bird and bat kill studies as well as their new findings on wind turbine noise health effects is essential. Of course, the moratorium could be renewed.

Investigating the 2K set back in overlay districts is essential, too.

How about investigating the formation of an overlay district first. When did it become the accepted notion that an overlay district would even be created?

Two wind turbine overlay districts have already been created by the wind developers. You can read about them in the EiS. The concept is not new in the Cape.

no the turbine is off the Duley road, not the Rand Hill road. it is also NOT on the Bouyea Farm.

3;44 You say the developers created two overlay districts with their proposals. Do you honestly consider this as legitimate community planning?

We just spent four years getting rid of town officials who were willing to sell out our town with the attitude you express with that comment.

Don't panic 7:43...

I was merely pointing out a fact. Please don't speak for my attitude.

The wind developers have defined two industrial wind overlay districts. You may have missed the time when the planning board accepted the Acciona FEIS that defined their overlay district.

You can't deny or ignore what already exists. You have to understand it and work with it.

I never expressed any opinion whether I considered the wind developer defining the WOD as legitimate community planning or not.

Like I said, don't panic and please don't try to do my thinking for me.

What is this new catch phrase ''don't panic''? I suppose the author of this comment thinks he quite clever characterizing differing opinions as panic ridden. I guess thats easier for him (or her) than actually considering the merit of an idea different from his own.

9;14 Why don't you drop all the references to panicking and try to deal genuinely with a differing opinion.I'm not speaking for your attitude,it speaks loudly on its own.

I haven't missed any time as you suggest.I'm well aware of the actions of our planning board, past and present. Do I understand you are contending that because Edsall and his clowns approved Acciona's Feis, this means the town has officially created a wind overlay district? If so,someone better tell the recently convened Comp. Plan and zoning law review committees. From what has been revealed to the public, the zoning law committee is discussing the possibility of creating a wind overlay district. According to you we already have one,or even two.

I have never heard anyone in any official capacity state that an approved FEIS constitutes the creation of an overlay district. It is just a proposal. Acciona hasn't even presented a complete application.

Unless I have completely missed the boat(as you suggest) our zoning criteria still controls and drives this development process, and those criteria are currently in a state of flux until this review and revision is completed.

I'm asking that all ideas be given fair consideration so that in the end we do what truly preserves our community. Its unfair and pretentious to call that being in a panic.
