The true NIMBYs of the world are those who want to make the world green — so long as it’s not them who have to suffer for it.

Green power has come to mean generating electricity by burning taxpayer dollars.

Cape Vincent joins Wolfe Island and Kingston in advertising campaign.

At the last Town of Cape Vincent Board meeting Supervisor Urban Hirschey and the Town Board passed a resolution to, in partnership with the Village of Cape Vincent, contribute five hundred dollars toward an advertising campaign that would encourage tourists to visit Cape Vincent, Wolfe Island, and the City of Kingston.

According to Hirschey:

This has been an ongoing committee. Its purpose is to increase the tourism in Cape Vincent, Wolfe Island and Kingston. They have KEDCO which has hired a consulting firm to work out a more defined plan and to look at the pros and cons of the different entities to get the best possible promotion campaign going. Cape Vincent and Wolfe Island are paying five hundred dollars and Kingston is paying thirty five hundred dollars.
Taking Horne's Ferry from Cape Vincent, NY to
Wolfe Island and the Wolfe Island Ferry to
Kingston, Ontario is by far the most beautiful
crossing of the St. Lawrence River.

I have been attending, the Chamber of Commerce has been attending, and the Cape LDC will send a representative. We have had one meeting here, one meeting on Wolfe Island, one and Kingston and others will be held.

It's a committee and I would be happy to report on it.

I think they have already made a decision to put a billboard up on route eighty-one south of Watertown to encourage drivers to take the scenic route to Cape Vincent, Wolfe Island and into Kingston, via the ferry system.

My problem with this campaign is the fact that the biggest benifit will go to the Horne's, the owner of the ferry. This is an individual bussiness and a foriegn one at that. The Horne's have not been very fair with Cape Vincent in the past as they do not want to pay their own way. Building rent etc.

that's right, go after one of the oldest successful businesses in the area....

Frankly, I do not care if the Horne's eat their children. They bring more people into Cape Vincent than any other source. I ran a long time business in Cape Vincent and people who come for the ferry stopped at my business.

Wake-up 7:18. The Horne's not only bring business to CV, they also do business in CV, possibly more than many residents.

7:18,

Your comment reflects a lack of thought on your part.

Cape Vincent needs Horne's Ferry. They run their ferry service very competently, safely and at a reasonable cost to all who use it. I hope the service stays in the family for many years to come.

You sound like one of those who fails to appreciate - or even resents - Cape Vincent's place in the life of the River, and the economy that rests on the River.

A "foreign business?" Come on. You think the economy of Ontario and New York are not intertwined? come out of your shell.

And by the way, the Horne brothers spend more money in Cape Vincent and New York State generally each year than most Cape vincent residents do. Be grateful for what they provide.

7:18 I FIND YOUR STATEMENT INTERESTING, COULD YOU EXPLAIN MORE ABOUT YOUR POINT PLEASE ?

Better get your facts straight 7:18AM. The Hornes pay for everything. The ferry brings lots of business to the Cape. I shop and eat in the Cape each weekend on my way to Wolfe Island as do lots of travelers. French Day, the car show and other summer events are enhanced by the ferry. The boys on the boat have always recommended the local businesses, as do I. The ad campaign and the ferry are good for business.

If the ferry systems weren't there I believe the businesses in Cape Vincent and the village on Wolfe Island would suffer a great deal. It brings a lot of people through the towns. So Yea! for advertising!!

Talk about supporting the Cape. Show me how much some of these pro wind folks support the Cape. Other than the legion's cheap beer you never see many in town. In fact many have bragged to me about how they have boycotted some and even canceled insurance policies with some. One windie even refused to plow the driveway of an elderly lady opposed to wind. You see them in Watertown and Clayton, tho.

We are Witnessing a major change in Cape Vincent. The people with vision are taking the reins. The non-visionaries are stepping aside. They have failed.

I took the ferry many years ago in my old Ford Econoline. Stayed in Kent a couple of nights and enjoyed dollar days there as well. The ferry and my visit to Kent made the entire experience a pleasure, including the time in Cape Vincent and along 12E, Clayton, etc. The entire experience is the package. The cooking in the local restaurants was excellent. I've experienced world class dining and was not disappointed there at all. Definite focus must be made to preserve that piece of the country. If anyone has seen Motif #1 as a paintiung or in real life, they get that sense of culture. The same sense as you should have when visiting Cape Vincent and Tibbetts Point Light House. Seasonal people saved the town as much as anyone who fought to preserve it. It's your duty to do the job you were hired to do. No do it. End of discussion. They weren't about to debate anything when they wanted to destroy the town. So , put up or shut up. At least the Homes do their part. Class ( Homes) VS NO CLASS (WOODS), etc.

1/25/12 6:01 PM You're right. You are entitled to an opinion. Try joining a discussion about geography. "I think the world is flat and Earth is at the center of the galaxy." It's easy to be an intelligent person if all you have is an opinion that disregards the actual facts. You are also entitled to jump off a bridge. Wait your place in line.
