Firefighters said a wind turbine caught fire in Altona, N.Y. saturday night. Clinton County fire officials said people driving by the windfarm called in to report the fire. Altona firefighters responded to the scene.

I just read a report that said a bald eagle with a bullet hole was found on the ice on the Oswegatchie River.



The New York State DEC is pissed and wants you to rat out the perpetrator. They have even called in CSI to do ballistics to determine the weapon.

The Town of Cape Vincent, NY is not the only group who is asking for suspension of industrial wind. They are set to put in place a seven month moratorium after a public hearing on Feb. 7. My guess is that there may be citizens attending the hearing who will say that seven months is not enough since there are numerous reasons for enacting the moratorium.

A wind farm in Mid Wales has been temporarily closed while engineers investigate damage to one of its wind turbines.



Operators Scottish Power Renewables said the Llandinam Windfarm, between Llanidloes and Newtown, had been taken offline while engineers looked into how the turbine was damaged in December.

After missing the month of December 2011, the Town of Cape Vincent Planning Board will reconvene at 7:00 tonight (Wednesday) at the Town Recreation center.



The planning board now has a full roster and has added two alternates who will have voting privilege in the event of the absent of other members. It is my understanding that attendance at each meeting is required of the two alternates.

The Watertown Daily Times is reporting that the Cape Vincent Town Board might replace Zoning Officer Alan Wood at its next Town Board meeting.



Mr. Wood made the controversial decision to grant Roger Alexander a permit for a 92 foot turbine at 35157 County Rt. 7. Mary C. Grogan presented the case that the turbine was too close to her home. The Watertown Daily Times is reporting that the Jefferson County Industrial Development Agency narrowly authorized distribution of new tax-exempt policies that would allow overrides.



What that means is that the JCIDA, a non-elected body would have the power to jam a PILOT down the pie holes of local taxing jurisdictions.

Former Cape Vincent Mayor, Andy Mahaffy, Sr. and a partner, pleaded guilty to stealing and splitting over two million dollars from TDS Telecom.


Between 1998 and December 2009, 327 phony invoices were sent to TDS by F.F. Tronixs, U.S. Attorney John Vaudreuil said.

At least eight families in Shirley, Wisconsin are now reporting health problems as a result of their proximity to five hundred foot tall wind turbines. Eight wind turbines were started up about a year ago, and one family who lives a little over a mile away reports that they have abandoned their home and now pay two mortgages.
